Nicely done, TWD writers. After keeping fans on pins and needles ever since the end of the last season, making them sweat it out over which character was going to be killed off in the season seven premiere, they pulled a swerve by having TWO prominent characters murdered. Even us comics folks, people who’ve read the comic series that the TV show is based on, couldn’t say for sure what was going to happen, as the show has proven in the past it has no problem deviating from the preexisting storyline, and showrunners have promised that it will deviate even more in the future. As a result, no one really knew what to expect, and even if some fans out there had correctly surmised that both Abraham and Glenn would have fatal encounters with Lucille the baseball bat, I daresay they weren’t fully prepared for the emotionally wrenching gutpunch of the filmed sequence. It was brutal and heartbreaking.
Two for the price of one. Wow. Also powerful was that segment when Rick was hanging on the dead body, and the corpse starting coming apart, threatening to drop him into the waiting hands of the Walkers below. I don’t know that I reacted the way most fans did, though; I found it funny. Maybe it was a release from all the built-up tension, but I found that scene hilarious. Cadavers don’t make for good lifelines, it would seem.
