You young whippersnappers just don’t realize how good you have it these days. Why, when I was a young ‘un, I had to walk to school uphill both ways! I… no, that’s not true. But it is true that today’s young Horror geeks, and geeks in general, have it better than they did in my day. Really, before BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER became an unexpected hit in that long-ago age known as 1997 (and THE X-FILES a few years before that), genre offerings in mainstream entertainment were fewer and farther between. Today the industry is positively rotten with them. There’s more Horror and other geek fare on TV than you can shake a stick at; the increase in the commonality of cable and the Internet has only enlarged the foundation, providing a larger pool in which today’s geek can bob for delicious apples like THE WALKING DEAD and Z-NATION. And speaking of the latter…
I blame this overabundance of genre offerings for my complete lack of knowledge of Z-NATION. I’d never watched it. If I am honest, I wasn’t aware that it existed. It has somehow managed to keep completely under my radar. I was surprised to learn that it just started its THIRD SEASON. Doing a little research, the series looks like a complete hoot! I’ve got some serious catching up to do.
