Is there a botanist in the house? I have a few questions concerning the Datura plant, which is used to create the drug called “Devil’s Breath.” Isn’t it closely related to the so-called “Zombie Cucumber,” the derivative of which is the drug that Haitian BOKORS, or Voodoo practitioners given over to black magic, use to create their “zuvembies,” or zombies. It sure sounds like it. Says one victim: “You’re like a complete zombie. Following the people giving you orders…It’s like you lose all your willpower…You can’t react.” This reminds me of that scene in THE SERPENT AND THE RAINBOW, the underrated 1988 Wes Craven Horror flick, where Bill Pullman’s character has white powder blown into his face and wakes up in a coffin. I know the zombie formula used in Haiti contains tetrodotoxin, or pufferfish venom, too, but doesn’t it also contain Zombie Cucumber?
Also, I wonder, does one dose of the zombie potion suffice to wipe out a person’s memory and higher mental functions? Or are repeated doses necessary. Real-life zombies are kept as slaves, and they lack the mentality to escape. The fact that the victim’s heart is still beating and he is still breathing makes him no less a walking dead man. Victims of Devil’s Breath seem to recover their faculties after a few hours, so this leads me to suspect that either the version utilized by witchdoctors is more potent or else repeated dosages are required to properly maintain the zombie-like state. Scary stuff.
