Back in 2012, a 31-year-old man in Miami named Rudy Eugene attacked and almost killed a homeless man, eating off the man’s face before being shot and killed by Miami police officers. At the time it was reported that Eugene was stoned out of his gourd on “bath salts” or synthetic marijuana. This seems to have been a case of sloppy journalism, however, as subsequent testing revealed no traces of the drug in his system, just plain ol’ garden-variety pot, which isn’t known for precipitating such violent, fanatical rage incidents. Why, then, did Eugene do it? He’s dead, so he can’t explain himself and as of this writing he hasn’t risen as one of the walking dead, so we’re left with no solid answers.
There is speculation that a Tequesta, Florida man, 19-year-old college Fratboy Austin Harrouf, who stabbed to death a married couple and then proceeded to start eating the dead man’s face off—What is it with all this face eating?!—was on another “synthetic” drug Flakka, or Alpha-PVP, at the time of the double homicide, but this has not been determined. Police used stun guns on the grunting, drooling Harrouf but these had no effect, and a neighbor who had tried to intervene was seriously wounded. Most frightening of all, Harrouf came across his victims totally at random, as they were sitting, relaxing in the garage with the door raised. They obviously didn’t expect a deranged lunatic to drop by for a visit.
