This started out as me trying to find some information on those folks who put up the Zombie Nativity Scene for the past couple of years. You probably remember hearing about it. I seem to recall that I covered it here on this site. It came complete with a zombie baby in a manger, zombie shepherds and zombie wise men. It was meant as a joke but unsurprisingly some people got offended. I wanted to find out if they’d put the scene up again this year or had decided it was too much trouble, and, if they had chosen to put it up, if it had again triggered complaints from the stick-up-the-ass crowd. (Note: If I honestly believed it was meant as any kind of mean-spirited insult to the Christmas story, I too would find it distasteful and tacky. But I took the stagers at their word when they stated that they meant no offense.)
It turns out the scene WAS put up again this year—and was vandalized shortly thereafter. Really Christian behavior, there, innit? WWJV?—What would Jesus vandalize? The destruction of private property is illegal, and the Good Book instructs believers to “obey the laws of the land.” Somebody done went an’ committed a sin! The owners of the Zombie nativity said they almost didn’t put it up again this year after all the grief of last year. I wonder if the act of vandalism will quell their undead Xmas spirit next year or make them more determined than ever to proclaim the zombie gospel? I hope for the latter.
