“Actin’ ain’t work!” You ever heard that one before? “Them movie an’ TV stars ought’a have ta’ get a real job!” As the old cliché goes, if I had a nickel for every time I’ve heard this, I’d have a lot of nickels. Anyone who has actually DONE it, on the other hand, knows just how much work it actually comprises. At times, hard work indeed. Granted, I don’t think any movie star has ever worked hard enough to earn twenty million dollars for one motion picture—Christian Bale in THE MACHINIST being a possible exception, although I’d think half that amount would be sufficient, overall—but it can still be tough. Especially if a star does his or her own stunts and fight scenes.
You likely thrilled to the fight scene between the Governor, played by David Morrissey, and Michonne, portrayed by actress Danai Gurira back in season three of THE WALKING DEAD. It didn’t take any effort for you. You just sat there on the couch. Some fans might have experienced a rapid heartbeat, due to the excitement, but that’s all. That fight, though, so entertaining to watch, took some two weeks to recover from, physically, according to Gurira. I can well believe it.
